L.A. Candy: Not so sweet.

From her early appearances on Laguna Beach to her final goodbyes on The Hills, I've always been a huge Lauren Conrad fan. With that being said, I finally got around to picking up one of her books (a digital version for my iPad, of course), starting with the first in the series: L.A. Candy. Diving into the book with an open mind, I was immediately disappointed within the first couple chapters. Without spoiling the book, I thought the characters were boring, the storyline was predictable, but concept aside... did anyone edit this for basic grammatical errors?! Needless to say, I won't be reading the rest of the series.

Writing aside, Lauren Conrad has amazing style that is simple, classy, and effortless. Although her clothing and accessories line for Kohl's was short-lived, there were a couple particular pieces that caught my eye (and now they're on sale to get rid of inventory!)

Love/hate L.C.? Read any of her books? Buy any of her products? What do you think?

I have read all of LC's books only because I'm a fan of hers too. I didn't necessarily think they were good, but they were definately addictive. Her pieces are pretty! Did you hear about her new line? It's called Paper Crown set to release in Fall :) xx

I was interested by her 'Style' book, but it was expensive and I'm not sure if I would have really used it.

I do like her style, but sometimes she can be rather generic and 'malibu beach barbie' as well as way too thin.

She is a pretty bad role model for young girls trying to feel comfortable in their own skin. I mean, apart from existing, what is she really contributing to society? We need young, strong, stylish women who actually accomplish something and who have talent!

Wow, this turned into a bit a rant. Sorry :D

Awesome comment on my blog! I'm glad you feel the same way about exams!

I have never read any of her books, but I have paid attention to her sense of style over the years. She is not a role model, but she does have a decent sense of fashion.
That is really all that I can say about her without sounding like a mean bitch.

I also have been following Lauren Conrad since Laguna Beach days, however the books were clearly hyped up and was one big disappointment.

Hi there! loving your blog :D I hate it when I read a book and the stories are crap. I feel like I can write a much better book than these celebs. :/

I'm a huge Lauren fan too, but the books were disappointing, she pretty much regurgitated The Hills into a novel, and the writing style was a little too simple for my liking to be honest. xx

stinks that it was disappointing, i never really followed the hills or laguna beach so i don't really know much about her in that sense but i do think she has a lovely simple style and enjoy when i see her in photos :)

I've never been a Lauren Conrad fan. I've always found her to be a boring character.. I guess because she lacks drama compared to Heidi and Kristin. I expected her books to be trash and you have confirmed that for me.

I love her so much, she's such an inspiration. But what a shame about her book.

During high school, Laguna Beach and the Hills were two of my guilty pleasures. And partially because I really loved her :) She's so sweet and makes everything seem so effortless. Too bad about the book though.

Awesome review.
Honestly I don't really fancy Lauren Conrad that much, I had no idea she's writing now too LOL As for her style, I felt as if she's still exploring and though she tries hard to appear effortless, there's always a tinge of formality neatness in her style. She seems ambitious though, and that's probably what I like about her :)

I am not really into commecial stuff, I buy hardly any books anyways ^^ The last series I bought was Twilight, because I had giftcards for the bookshop and they were only valid until a certain date so :p I read the twilightbooks, until the 4th, I am half way down and quitted reading in October xD I do on the other hand love looking at glamour girls like Lauren Conrad and Olivia Palermo for style inspiration :) x

Great post! I'm glad you did a review on this book because I actually picked it up at Borders a year ago and read the first couple paragraphs and it just seemed boring. hehe...so I didn't buy it. She does have great style though and I liked her on the hills.

Nice blog, following you now

I think she's pretty and seems down-to-earth and sweet, but I also think she's overrated. I'm not really impressed with her fashion or anything she does, to be honest. It's her great personality that has got her this far! I do love reading so I like that you incorporated her book here and gave a little review :)

Also... welcome to Blogger! Your site looks amazing. I wish I had your skills -- how much would you charge if I wanted you to tweak my layout?

I took your advice and I'm not going to read any of her books! haha :)

I actually didn't quite enjoy my experience at Windsor Arms! They had such a small variety and they didn't taste all the great :( Maybe it was just me haha. I would love to try Moroco Chocolat if it didn't have the $50 price tag on it!

I liked her in Laguna Beach back in the day and when she first started on the Hill but my love for her started going away throughout the seasons. I too heard that the book was horrible!

Hey! Thanks for stopping by my blog and leaving the lovely comment!

I think Lauren Conrad's style is super girlie and romantic, which shows in her clothing design. It is sort of similar to asian styles.

Love your blog! Gonna follow!

First off, you have a great blog. I love the layout and I love your "about me." Second, I think LC is a cute girl with a great marketing team and nothing beyond that. yikes! I didn't mean for that to be so mean sounding.

I love her, I was devastated that I don't have Sky + and never got to watch the hills but she is wonderful! and I definitely admire her for the line "I want to forgive you, and forget you" xxx

I'm glad to know someone's opinion on L.A. Candy because I was entertaining reading it. I never saw Lauren Conrad on any of her various shows and never paid much attention to her style so I wondered if I was missing out on a lot of inspiration. I do like her street style and her line for Kohl's - I didn't know that was discontinued so I'll definitely have to go back and browse some clearance racks!
