Broken guitar strings and lane swimming.

one. I am so fucking excited for the Music, Magic, Make Peace tour! My tickets came in the mail on Friday and I can honestly say I've never been this excited for a show (and I've been to quite a lot!) I think my friends and I are going to see OneRepublic and I really want to see The Kooks too! Oh, and I got tickets to go see Jack Johnson in August with my boyfriend :)

two. A couple days ago, I broke a guitar string. It wouldn't usually be a big deal, but I was in the middle of a new composition and it was going along really well until my E string snapped. I didn't even bother to scribble down the chords because I thought I would remember... but guess what? I don't. Ugh, I always overestimate my memory.

three. Last night I went lane swimming with Freda, and it reminded me how much I used to love swimming. It sucks that I don't go regularly anymore, but I think I should change that and start going more often. Being underwater is like being in a whole different universe. That, and you get to have some giggles at old men in leopard patterned speedos.

four. So I have basically given up with getting accepted to my first pick program/University. The competition is so tight and thinking about it just makes me sad :( (Edit: Ironically, I just checked the OUAC status page and I got accepted to the University of Toronto. It's not my first choice... but it feels nice to have another back-up.)

five. My parents are leaving to Michigan for three days starting Monday. I know it's not a long period of time, but I appreciate any alone time I can get!

I will possess your heart.

How I wish you could see the potential, the potential of you and me. It's like a book elegantly bound, but in a language that you can't read just yet. You gotta spend some time, love, you gotta spend some time with me. And I know that you'll find, love, I will possess your heart. There are days when outside your window, I see my reflection as I slowly pass. And I long for this spirit perspective, when we'll be lovers, lovers at last.

Death Cab For Cutie - I Will Possess Your Heart
Narrow Stairs released May 13th. Can't wait.

Mix CD for the boyfriend.

Front cover.

Track listing. The text is really faded for some reason.

Jack Johnson - Better Together
Love is the answer, at least for most of the questions in my heart. Like why are we here? and where do we go? and how come it's so hard? It's not always easy and sometimes life can be deceiving, I'll tell you one thing, it's always better when we're together...

Savage Garden - I Knew I Loved You
I knew I loved you before I met you, I think I dreamed you into life. I knew I loved you before I met you, I have been waiting all my life...

Shayne Ward - No You Hang Up
You can keep me up on the phone all night. We say let's hang up on three but we don't ever do it. Ain't it crazy how after all this time, we got that you hang up, no you hang up kinda love...

Guy Sebastian - Elevator Love
We have love, and lose love, and do it again, we do it again, but that's how we are... we come back just to throw it all away. Tell me it's over, so we can do it all again, I'm addicted to this elevator love...

Boys Like Girls - Thunder
Your voice was the soundtrack of my summer. Do you know you're unlike any other? I don't wanna ever love another, you'll always be my thunder...

This one opens up and looks like this.
Craig David - Unbelievable
Always said I would know where to find love, always thought I'd be ready and strong enough, but sometimes I just felt I could give up. But you came and you changed my whole world, now I'm somewhere I've never been before... now I see what love means. You're so unbelievable.

Taylor Swift - Teardrops on my Guitar
He's the reason for the teardrops on my guitar, the only thing that keeps me wishing on a wishing star. He's the song in the car I keep singing, don't know why I do. He's the time taken up, but there's never enough and he's all that I need to fall into...

Colbie Caillat - Oxygen
Oh baby, if I was your lady, I would make you happy. I'm never gonna leave, never gonna leave...

Michael Buble - Everything
You're a carousel, you're a wishing well, and you light me up when you ring my bell. You're a mystery, you're from outer space, you're every minute of my day...

Jared Campbell - Stay on the Line
See I just want to talk to you right now, see I know we can make it through somehow. If you stay on the line then everything is gonna be fine...

Marcos Hernandez - The Way I Do
Never thought I could love you, never thought I could want you, never thought I could need you... the way I do.

Nathan - You Make Me Feel
I can't explain, don't understand, but everyday I think about you. You're the one, and it's for real. There ain't no words it's just how I feel deep down inside, and I can't hide the way you make me feel so high...

The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus - Guardian Angel
Seasons are changing and waves are crashing and stars are falling all for us. Days grow longer and nights grow shorter... I can show you I'll be the one...

Norwegian Recycling - How Six Songs Collide
Out of the doubt that fills my mind (there's no need to complicate, our time is short, this is our fate I'm yours) I somehow find, you and I collide..

Troy, Michigan.

I’ve been in Troy, Michigan for the last couple days for March Break.  It’s not exactly the ideal “getaway”, but the snow is definitely less here; it’s no Florida, but it’s a teeny tiny bit warmer, if that makes a difference.  It’s not my first time in Michigan, but I’ve noticed a couple things I haven’t paid attention to during previous trips:

  • Roads, streets and highways all need more lighting.  Streetlights are rare, but where they’re available, it’s still dim as hell.
  • Driving is a whole other complaint on its own.  Sure, we’re still in North America, but traffic lights are weird looking, and “Michigan turns” seem so… pointless?  I’ve been driving around the Auburn/Rochester Hills and Troy areas and I can proudly say I know my way around I-75 and M-59 pretty well. (So the “I” stands for “Interstate”, but what exactly is “M”?)
  • The Redwings game was playing when we were having dinner at Ruth’s Chris and my brother walks in wearing a Leafs jacket.  Yeah, we got evil stares alright.
  • Alcohol and cigarettes are allowed to be sold openly in grocery stores?  I was in Meijer earlier today, and noticed a whole section of alcohol and cigarettes that weren’t even behind the counter.  Speaking of liquor…
  • …everything so much cheaper in the States!  Alcohol, gas, clothes, books, food… you name it.  This isn’t something I just recently noticed, but it’s definitely something worth mentioning.  Canadians pay up the ass for things that are way easier on the pocket for Americans… unfair.

But as much as I have many complaints about “American living”, I quite enjoy this city.  We should open a T.G.I. Friday’s, P.F. Chang’s and Pandera Bread franchise in Toronto.  Oh, and The Somerset Collection is officially my new favourite mall.  As far as dining and shopping goes, I’m quite content, but otherwise, there really isn’t much to do here.  I’m just glad my hotel has free wireless (and free breakfast, for that matter).  Two more days, then back to Canadian life!
